currently obsessed

sometimes i really hate on social media. but sometimes it’s really awesome. like when i stumble across this insanely awesome brand of sunglasses (PIT VIPER) out of salt lake that i am now insanely obsessed with. they are totally 90’s badass, they are also bulletproof – which is definitely a plus. i may have just purchased a new pair of raybans for the summer but i have to have these. and in multiple colors. they even have a pair that is glow in the dark. seriously, check them out – if you like anything retro you will love these!

hope you are having a rad friday and enjoying some nicer weather. apparently new york is still a little confused on what season it is – but hopefully it will figure it out pretty soon!

planning ahead

one of the things that always keeps me going during the week is planning ahead – whether it be planning for the weekend, planning a trip or planning out my meals for the week it gives me something to look forward to. currently i am already planning ahead for this weekend – my sister is coming into the city and we are finally going to eat at a sushi spot i have been drooling over for months, kotobuki. i have heard great things about it and just looking at the menu is making me so incredibly hungry. this menu is truly different from other sushi menus, most of them have pretty much the exact same thing which doesn’t leave much room for anything new or exciting – but kotobuki’s menu is the exact opposite. sushi is taken very seriously with my sister and i so i am totally pumped to see what this place has to offer! check out their menu here:

i am also going to continue thinning out my wardrobe before my move in three months – it is sickening the amount of stuff i have. it doesn’t look like a lot when it is all put away but once things start to be pulled out i realize the monster that i have created. i do not need to keep the jeans from high school i don’t wear or the lacrosse pinnies from spring weekend at stonehill. i’m hoping to donate some giant bags full of clothes to goodwill this weekend. i would like to move out with far less than i moved in with – which is going to be damn near impossible. my test for keeping something or not: has it been worn/used in the past 6 months, if not it goes. less is more – and i know i will be kicking myself when i move out dragging giant boxes around if i don’t get rid of a lot of things.

here’s to hoping the weekend goes as planned, even though it’s only tuesday!

bestowed box

so by now pretty much everyone knows what birchbox is. if not, it is a monthly box that comes with a bunch of samples of beauty products. so every month you get to try a bunch of new things and it’s different every month. i recently stumbled upon the bestowed box – which is the same concept but instead of beauty products it comes with healthy snacks! i thought it would be a perfect way to start of the spring and discover some great new snacks that i’ll want to tote with me to the beach this summer! my first box is on its way right now and i can’t wait to see what tasty treats are inside! check it out for yourself here:

weekend updates

this past weekend was packed full of all kinds of activities – from running a 5k to support pancreatic cancer to fairway (my new favorite market) trips with lo. on friday night i got to catch up with my old coworkers starkie and neil, who i always love to see. as per usual we had some beers at played pool at bullshead and talked about starkie’s upcoming trip to spain – of which i am incredibly jealous!

saturday morning i was up bright and early to run a 5k with friends to support pancreatic cancer research. my neighbor is currently battling this disease so this cause is very close to my heart. as i was on the subway on my way up to riverside park my friend patrick got on the same car as me, so we rode up together. crazy how you always run into people in new york! the weather was a little chilly but we all had a great time running the hilly course – patrick of course lapped all of us. afterwards we trekked down to the boat basin for drinks and food and had a great rest of the day. needless to say i needed a nap by about 4:30pm!

sunday lauren and i went up to fairway for some groceries – definitely my favorite grocery store by far! they also have the pickles that i have been searching for for the past two years so i will be making frequent trips to get my pickle fix. after fixing a little mid morning breakfast/lunch – i’ve gotten really into blts for breakfast recently – i headed over to lululemon to pick up some new running gear and then to bed bath and beyond for some new candles and a small grater. i went for an evening run on the river and then cooked up some chicken, broccoli and udon noodle stir fry that turned out even better than i thought (secret ingredient: ginger). all in all it was an incredibly successful weekend that i’m hoping i can duplicate again this weekend!

sparkly soul

i’ve been off the blogging bandwagon for awhile so i have a ton of great products, websites, recipes and stuff to share! in my travels around the internet, i was made aware of sparkly soul headbands. i have tried a lot of headbands and usually my issues are they are either too tight and squeeze my head to pieces or they just slide right off – so i decided to try sparkly soul. they claim that the headbands are not too tight and stay in place during whatever workout you may be attempted – and boy, were they right! these are great headbands for whatever you are doing, and because they are sparkly and come in great colors i also find myself wearing them to work as well. having a versatile headband that actually keeps my hair out of my face is awesome! check them out here:

curing the monday blues

i am in a mood today. it could be the dreary, rainy weather or the anticipation of a long weekend coming up, but i’m just not feelin’ it today. so here are my cures for a crappy day:

1) trotted over to staples and bought some fun colored pens to write in my planner with. a note to do laundry looks like a lot more fun when written in purple. the bright colors have managed to make my day a bit less dull.

2) in office gardening. i have pruned my office plant, which now looks pretty sad. on my way home i am going to stop at home depot and buy some basil seeds and start my in office gardening project.

3) made plans to deep condition my hair tonight. yea, sounds lame but it’s really one of those days that i need anything to get me through the day.

4) putting together weekend plans although it is only monday. the week always goes by faster when you have great things to look forward to on the weekend!

julia’s birthday weekend

this weekend lauren and i journeyed to albany to reunite with all of our stonehill friends for julia’s birthday. we had such a great time! there was much birthday cake, mechanical bull-riding and engagement celebrating for alex. i instantly fell in love with julia & anthony’s pup sasha, who had ridiculous amounts of energy even after a long walk and hours of playing fetch. on saturday night both of julia’s 85 year old neighbors came over and they were the sweetest ladies ever. one gifted julia a handle of smirnoff, she was a hoot.

this weekend i’m off to DC to see shannon and get into all sorts of trouble and eat giant pieces of pizza and delicious cupcakes. there really is nothing like galavanting around the nation’s capital with your best friend.

below is a compilation of pictures from this past weekend!

recently i came across the best custom notebook/planner website and ordered myself a 2013 planner. MAY DESIGNS creates notebooks and planners that you can customize with colors, patterns and my personal fave – initials. mine came out even better than i would have hoped! because it is so cute i will always have it with me and hopefully be all kinds of organized this year. check out their website and design your own – these would make FABULOUS gifts!

weekend warriors

getting a bit of a slow start this week, i feel like i’m getting the sniffles. i had a fabulous weekend – highlights being attending the PBR event at MSG on friday with lauren, delish dinner and adventures with lauren and greg on saturday and then trekking to brooklyn on saturday night to see my friends starkie and tara and celebrate starkie’s recent promotion!

on tap for this week: work, drinks with friends and then a trip to albany this weekend to reunite with the stonehill girls for julia’s birthday! hopefully i can manage to cook a few things and run errands during the week as well, i swear that laundry multiplies on it’s own!

now here are some pictures from this weekend:

a search for the perfect pink

i’ve blogged before about how much i adore essie’s ‘punchy pink’ nail color. unfortunately, this color is discontinued and cannot be purchased anywhere, i’ve scoured ebay and even written notes to essie – both to no avail. so i’ve decided with a trip to miami being planned for this winter i need to find a substitute. so far i have found three colors to try in hopes that one will be similar to my beloved punchy pink.

essie’s ‘secret stash’

this color looks to be a bit more fuchsia, but i think it will be similar to the pinkiness of punchy pink

nars ‘schiap’

i know this color will be very neon as i have the lipstick in the same color, this could be a great contender

bobbi brown ‘pink valentine’

this shade packs some punch and hopefully will be a good combination of neon and pink!
