weekend recap

this is going to be short. because basically, i did nothing this weekend. the weather was supposed to be nice and then it rained and was completely awful all weekend long. i ended up sitting on my couch watching way too many episodes of ‘married to jonas’ and watching jodi pack up her room. this was our last weekend together since she leaves for her new job next weekend. i’m totally bummed, but i know she will kill it at her new job and i’ll get to go up to NH this summer and visit!

considering i did nothing this weekend, other than 1 load of laundry, i have a lot of things to get in order before i jet off to martha’s vineyard for memorial day. i am really looking forward to spending the weekend out there, hopefully the weather will hold out and i’ll get to catch some rays. here’s to a good week before a holiday weekend!

25 things every young professional should know by 25

i came across this article this week and think it is INCREDIBLY relevant for anyone around my age. i am pretty proud to say that i may have no completely mastered this list but i think i’m going a good job of getting there.

thank you notes – SO important, when was the last time you got a hand written note? with all the new technology we have, people tend to forget about these. when i was little i was always forced to write thank yous for christmas and birthday gifts – luckily that has stayed with me through my adult life and i send hand written thank yous for everything and also send them to my friends. who doesn’t love to get snail mail?

#21 is something i think is very important. if you can’t ask for (and take) constructive criticism how will you know what you need to work on and how to move forward in your position? the end.

i really love #5. i truly enjoy talking to all those around me and understanding how they got to where they are in their career. i have received some of the greatest advice from doing this. starting out one might think that higher ups don’t want to speak with them – the opposite is true. use them as a tool to understand how to build your career.

take a look at it, i think everyone can read it and take away a valuable bit of advice.

weekend plans

well, i guess i have made it through this week. it was a long one. as mice continue to terrorize and rip apart our apartment i’m getting increasingly cranky. hopefully the exterminator will come next week and finally put an end to this reign of terror. i discovered that they had eaten 4 WHOLE bags of ramen last night. and then this morning they had gotten into pretzels. i’m thinking of entitling my first book ‘if you give a mouse some ramen…’. i think it would be a bestseller, personally.

jodi and i have plans to go to coney island tomorrow to ride some rollercoasters and eat some hotdogs. i cannot remember the last time i was on a rollercoaster but i’m already scared shitless, so it should be a good time! i will spend the rest of the weekend throwing out food and further mouse-proofing the apartment. never a dull moment when you live in new york, always has to be something. i also need to retrieve my clothes that have been at the dry cleaner (who was evicted and now i’m not exactly sure where my clothes are) for 3+ months.

after work i’m grabbing drinks with some of my coworkers which will be a nice start to the weekend, just have to get my clock to jump ahead a few hours and then i’m outta here!

as i mentioned a few weeks ago, i got a box of goodies from my friend meg young who is the director of PR at jouer cosmetics. since receiving the box, the products have completely changed my beauty routine, namely the luminizing moisture tint. i had been looking for a good tinted moisturizer for a long time. i don’t like to wear a lot of make up but i like to have a little bit of coverage and tint and this product is PERFECT for that. it provides good coverage but also adds a light shimmer and somehow makes me look like i’ve gotten some sun without looking orange or fake. pairing the luminizing moisture tint with the creme eyeshadow crayon in rococo and blush in bougainvillea rounds out my new everyday look. what i really love about jouer cosmetics is that they make you look put together, not made up. they enhance your natural features and don’t make you look like a barbie doll/stripper like most other make up can. i am pretty fair so i use the luminizing moisture tint in pearl and that is my perfect shade. they are also available in a smaller travel size if you want to test it out before you buy a larger tube. but seriously, OBSESSED. check it out!

one of the many perks of working at music choice is that i am exposed to music i would normally never listen to – hence my coming across MS MR. definitely different than what i would usually listen to, more alt but still a bit dance-y. some of their songs have been featured on ‘pretty little liars’, if you are into that – i never understand what’s going on but still proceed to watch it. their new album just dropped today and you can listen to it right on their website, check it out!

weekend recap

i spent last tuesday through saturday in north carolina with my family and had such a good time catching up with everyone. my cousin brittany drove down from ohio as a surprise with her 3 year old twins wyatt and maverick and 1 year old daphne. we went fishing and four wheeling, the kids got a blow up pool to splash around in and we even went to the children’s museum in fayetteville which everyone enjoyed. it’s always great to spend time with family you rarely get to see and find out what is going on in everyone’s lives. it’s also amazing to see how much cheaper everything is down there from american cheese to toilet paper, but that’s beyond the point.

i am slowly adjusting to being back in the office this week – it’s always difficult to get back into the groove of doing work after having time off. this week looks like it will be relatively slow, which will be nice. i’m crossing my fingers for rangers playoffs tickets for this week and then looking forward to kicking back and relaxing for the weekend.

gearing up for the weekend

it’s finally FRIDAY! yesterday felt a lot like friday, which was unfortunate, because it was thursday. after a pretty productive week i am definitely ready for the weekend. the weather is looking quite nice for saturday and sunday so i am hoping to get the kayaks out on the water for the first time this season. tomorrow is also my mom’s birthday so we will do the traditional kentucky derby party celebration and then go out for dinner. it will be nice to have a weekend in connecticut with my family before i jet off to north carolina on tuesday. there will be atving, shooting and beaching so i stoked about that mini vacation. i am crossing my fingers that my pit vipers are delivered in time for my early tuesday am flight – gotta see if they are actually bulletproof 🙂 happy weekend – hope it’s filled with sun and fun!

margaret elizabeth jewelry

this saturday is my mom’s birthday and i have spent this week trying to figure out what i should get her. parents are always difficult to shop for. one year my sister and i thought we were pure genius getting my mom a pair of uggs which she didn’t even bother to try on and just immediately returned. so we haven’t always had the best track record. if you are like me i really don’t like to give a gift that i don’t think the recipient will really love, so i put a lot of thought into picking out presents.

in more of my travels around the internet i found margaret elizabeth jewelry, a company that belongs to the sister of a friend from college. her big statement necklaces, earrings and bracelets are perfect for pulling an outfit together. she uses beautiful stones in each piece, which are eye catchingly amazing. the whole vibe of the company is relaxed and elegant, which makes it all the more fabulous. i am in love with her collection of studs and will definitely be stocking up on those for myself! but now what to get for my mom…

currently obsessed

this title is actually a bit incorrect because this has been an ongoing obsession for a while now. CONNIE BRITTON’S HAIR. i’ve gotten really into ABC’s ‘Nashville’ and spend most of each episode wondering how i can get my hair to look even remotely close to connie’s character of rayna. on or off camera connie’s hair is absolutely flawless and was recently awarded the title of most beautiful hair in people mag’s most beautiful people issue. reading her interview i was trying to drink in any bit of advice i could garner about how she keeps her hair so shiny and gorgeous – apparently she only washes her hair about once a week. not sure if this would work for my insane curls, but hey i might as well give it a try! too much hair washing can dry out hair and make it dry and frizzy. happy tuesday and here’s to having gorgeous, wavy locks like connie!

monday morning updates

so my weekend was completely different from the one i planned last week but it turned out to be completely awesome. unfortunately my sister forgot about the fact that she had promised a neighbor that she would take care of their dog while they were away – so she was out of the weekend plans. both of my roommates were gone as well so i had the whole weekend to do whatever i felt like – which was awesome!

i closed out my friday with starkie and tara at the last party at chino’s apartment – which has amazing views. the sunsets from his roof are unreal and there is an awesome view of the freedom tower. sadly, this was his last weekend in the apartment, hopefully his next place will be equally as awesome!

saturday was quite productive – i pine sol-ed the whole apartment, went for a run and then made an actual shrimp scampi for dinner that turned out really well. also received a box of jouer goodies in the mail from the wonderful meg young! i spent the evening playing with all of the awesome products she sent for my help with a launch event a few weeks ago. all of the products are absolutely amazing! thanks meg! sunday i went up to the dog park and spent some time with my friend andrea and her adorable english bulldog puppy, reggie. he is so precious, i am waiting for her to go on vacation so i can steal him for the weekend! after walking all the way home, which resulted in a strange sunburn across my back, i went for a run, grabbed some groceries (apparently sofia vergara was at the supermarket at the same time, didn’t notice her, was too focused on selecting pickles), and then just relaxed for the night. all in all it was an awesome weekend that even resulted in a tiny trace of a tan, which i can definitely be into!
